About Us.

Gateway Hockey Summer League is proudly based in Barrie, Ontario, and was established in 2024 with a simple but powerful idea:
Why should elite players from our area have to travel to Toronto on a weekday at 9:00 p.m. just to play competitive summer hockey?

The talent is already here.

Barrie and the surrounding area are home to an incredible pool of high-level athletes. We saw an opportunity to build something special locally—something that keeps players in our community, saves families time on the road, and allows athletes to enjoy everything summer in Simcoe County has to offer.

Less time in the car.
More time on the dock.
One high-quality, competitive hockey game per week.

That’s the Gateway standard.

Our Foundation: The Junior Division

For our first two seasons, Gateway Hockey Summer League focused on building a premier Junior Division, featuring athletes competing at the highest levels of the game, including Pro, OHL, NCAA, OUA, and Junior A hockey.

Some of the players who have competed in our Junior Division include:

  • Phil Daoust – Belleville (AHL)
  • Ethan Procyszyn – North Bay (OHL) / Anaheim (NHL)
  • Max Dirracolo – Kitchener (OHL) / NHL Camp
  • Nathan Leek – Charlottetown (QMJHL) / NHL Camp
  • Jake Crawford – Owen Sound (OHL) / NHL Camp
  • Nolan Jackson – Ottawa (OHL)
  • Hudson Martin – Sudbury (OHL)
  • Francis Parish – Peterborough (OHL)
  • Logan Hawery – Sarnia (OHL)
  • Cole Emerton – Barrie (OHL)
  • Troy Patton – Brampton (OHL)
  • Cole Zurawski – Owen Sound (OHL)
  • Hayden Martin – Guelph (OHL)
  • Mason Emhoff – Bloomington (ECHL)
  • Damon Boose – McGill (OUA)

This division laid the foundation for what Gateway represents: elite competition, strong community ties, and a professional experience close to home.

League Structure & Experience

Gateway Hockey Summer League runs as a 10-week (10-game) season, consisting of:

  • 8 regular season games
  • Semi-final and Championship games

Each team is built with 11 skaters and a goalie:

  • 6 Forwards
  • 4 Defencemen
  • 1 Extra Player
  • 1 Goalie

We track stats and standings, and recognize athletes through Player of the Week awards, ensuring a competitive and engaging league environment.

Giving Back to Our Community

Community is at the heart of Gateway.

For every division we run, we donate $500 to local charities that make a real impact. In 2026, with five divisions, we will be donating $2,500, distributed evenly among the following organizations:

💕 Barrie Cares
💕 Barrie Youth Reach
💕 Barrie Food Bank
💕 Barrie Hospice – TCF
💕 SickKids – CM

Player Safety & Development

We believe development goes beyond the ice. Every athlete in our league has the opportunity to attend a First Aid and CPR certification course, provided through our sponsor Simcoe CPR Training. This ensures our players are not only better athletes, but more prepared and responsible individuals.

Our Mission

Gateway Hockey Summer League was built to keep talent local, strengthen our hockey community, and create a high-level summer league that Barrie can be proud of.

Elite hockey.
Local roots.
Community first.
